dish of the day 7.21.09

It's hot in the city. It's dirty, too, and, like every summer, I find I have a little too much time on my hands and not enough productive things going. My clients need me only sporadically right now because they are spending time at their country homes or sailing through the Mediterranean (with a month-long supply of raw biscotti and crackers that I spent hours dehydrating, btw--oy vey.), and the greenmarkets are crammed full and busting at the seams with absolutely gorgeous veg! I can't help but venture out to explore the specialty markets, restaurants, and greenmarkets that can only be found in New York, some I've been to a thousand times and some that are brand new to me.

Instead of seeking, creating, and tasting all on my own, I have decided to see what value there may be in noting where food is taking me day by day, both with client menus and my own culinary escapades. My hopes are that noting the seasonal, regional, organic, and the adventurous will inspire feedback, dialogue, and new ideas.

I'm starting small and hoping to eventually include restaurant and market reviews, food news, and gastronically-inclined guest contributers, both here and away. I will include seasonal and relevant recipes, occasional drink pairings, and thoughts on exciting ingredients that cross my path.

I have big hopes, big dreams for this people, but since I am notorious for heading straight into big projects without first setting up my mise en place, I am starting small.

So, it begins. . .enjoy, contribute, chew the fat, shoot the breeze, or just get hungry enough to eat a horse. . .
